Silfra snorkeling on a Golden Circle day
Silfra snorkeling takes you into the fissure at Þingvellir National Park, where cold water and rocky surroundings call for proper preparation. This is a surface activity with a mask, snorkel and fins. Choose it for the water experience itself, then arrange your sightseeing around the meeting time. The local outings compared here meet at Silfra; they suit travellers who are organising their own transport rather than looking for a complete bus circuit from Reykjavík.
The water is 2 to 4 °C, so the clothing and fitting session matter as much as the time in the fissure. All three selected outings supply drysuit equipment. Their differences are practical: underwater photos, a heated place to change, the precise meeting instructions and the stated group format. If you want to descend with scuba equipment, read the separate Silfra diving guide before choosing a trip.

Choose a local meeting-point outing with drysuit equipment, comparing underwater photos, changing facilities and group arrangements.
Photos or a heated changing van?
The GoPro-photo outing includes a certified PADI dive guide, a drysuit and other snorkeling equipment, hot drinks and cookies. Photos are part of this package, while hotel pickup and parking are excluded. Its meeting instructions identify the location with the map reference 7V4M+FCQ, 806, Iceland. Use the instructions for your chosen departure to reach the correct team rather than stopping at the first vehicle near the fissure.
The outing with a heated changing van includes a certified PADI instructor, snorkeling equipment, a drysuit and warm undersuit, hot chocolate and cookies. Its Silfra entrance fee is included, while hotel transport and vehicle parking are excluded. Park at P5 and continue to the Silfra Meeting Point. This format is useful if the changing arrangements are a priority; the heated van is an included facility of this particular outing.
The small-group photo outing includes a certified Divemaster, snorkeling equipment with a drysuit and thermal undersuit, underwater photos, hot chocolate and cookies. It specifies a maximum of 6 guests per guide. Meet at the Silfra parking area 15 minutes before the tour time; transport from Reykjavík is excluded. That group limit belongs to this product and should not be treated as a universal park rule.
Park permission and personal suitability
Silfra requires permission and a buddy for entry. Caves and covered underwater passages are prohibited. The park also provides for independent visitors with permission, so a commercial outing is one organised way to visit rather than a universal requirement. The selected tours provide drysuits, although park rules also allow snorkelers to use a suitably thick wetsuit. Keep those two levels of requirements separate.
Commercial trips involve health screening and may require medical clearance. Read the participation form before committing to a date, including the swimming, age and equipment-fit requirements for that specific outing. Base your participation decision on your own circumstances and the screening form. Likewise, a guide's diving qualification does not turn a snorkeling booking into a scuba course. Choose the activity that matches what you intend to do in the water.
Parking and time for the rest of the route
P5 is close to Silfra and the church area. The published Þingvellir parking tariff for a car with up to 5 seats is 1,000 ISK per day, valid at P1, P2 and P5 on the payment day. Vehicle parking and the activity's personal access fee are different charges. An included Silfra fee does not make an excluded parking charge part of the package.
Allow room for arrival, equipment fitting and changing afterwards rather than treating the entire appointment as water time. Put the activity into your Golden Circle route before adding more stops. For a day with guided transport and sightseeing, the broader tour comparison helps you choose a different format. In winter, keep the road journey flexible and follow current weather, road information and local restrictions.
